"Disturbia" movie review

Movie review today! I don't have any book reviews because I have been watching and re-watching one movie for days now! I just love Netflix and the ability to keep movies for days or weeks if you want. I got "Disturbia" last Friday and have watched it at least once a day since (ok, last night I watched it twice!). I don't know what it is about this movie, but I am loving it.

"Disturbia" is a retelling of Hitchcock's "Rearwindow". It stars the handsome and oh so cute Shia LaBeouf, as "Kale". Kale is a teen dealing with a lot - he's also under house arrest for punching out his teacher. Kale had a happy life and good close family until his father died in front of his eyes. Kale sinks into despair and lashes out - hence punching his teacher when his teacher pours salt into Kale's still open wounds.
Kale ends up with an ankle bracelet and can't leave his property for three months. His mother gets sick and tired of Kale doing nothing but making a mess so she cuts off his subscriptions to video games, his ipod and his cable tv. Bored to death, Kale begins watching his neighbors for entertainment and soon learns more about most of them than he ever wanted to know.
One new neighbor Kale wants to know better is the beautiful new girl next door- Ashley. He watches her and learns to really know her and see who she is - this endears her and she awards Kale with a passionate kiss. These two were great together, but they weren't alone in this story.

Kale's best buddy Ronnie plays a large role too, and he's great. Together the three stake out the neighborhood and discover a serial killer living next door. But the serial killer doesn't want to get caught and he knows the teens are watching him.
This movie has action, lots of suspense, moments that make you jump in surprise (even after 4 viewings I still jump at one scene! lol), good teen interaction friendship (loved Kale & Ronnie as best buds) and some romance with a wounded hero all coated in teen angst! What's not to like? Nothing. I love this movie! I give it 5 out of 5 stars for a teen suspense/thriller movie.

"Grave Sight" by Charlaine Harris

Here's my fourth and final book review for today. I have not read a single review of ANY of this series, so this is completely new to me and I have no idea what is in store for me in this series, but I got a lot of first impressions.

The book is "Grave Sight" by Charlaine Harris and is book #1 of her "Harper Connelly Mysteries" series. This series is about Harper the heroine who was struck by lightning during her childhood (dead her step brother Tolliver did CPR and brought her back). The lightning strike gave Harper the ability to local dead people and know how they died - it also gave her a weird spiderwebish scar on her leg that sometimes aches her. Harper Connelly is a no nonsense young woman who uses her unusual gift for a profit. She figures why should she work for free when people will pay for her ability like they'd pay anyone else for a service. Unfortunately, most people don't share Harper's view, and while they use her for her 'gift' they also don't like her and treat her like the plague or some evil creature from the pits of hell. Some even try to kill her, while others just want to beat her up or stone her.

Tolliver travels with Harper as her sort of manager. He locates the jobs and makes sure Harper is protected. I have only read book one, and while these two have their own dating and sex lives, I have to say I was getting a VC Andrews 'Flowers in the Attic' feeling ALL through this book. My guess is step brother Tolliver and step sister Harper are going to end up in bed together. They met as teens when their parents (attorneys) married so there is no blood relation between them, but they tell people they are simply brother and sister. There is no sexual tension between them, no flirting or anything like that, but there is an unbeliebable bond there that no outsiders can break or get between. These two (I think) are destined to be with each other - just my hunch.

Now that said, they both have sex with other people in this book, and Harper even developes feelings for a local cop who helps her solve a twisted numerous murder mystery. Tolliver on the other hand, doesn't get into feelings. He's the wham-bam-thank-you-Mame guy looking only for a few hours pleasure with no strings attached. While it's not said or really indicated, I get the idea his heart was taken long ago by his step sister Harper - just a hunch here.

In book #1, Harper and Tolliver are paid to come to a small town and help locate a missing teen some believe was murdered by her boyfriend - a boyfriend who is also dead believed to be by suicide. Harper quickly locates the dead teen and another dead body no one knew about. She wants to leave but can't. Her and Tolliver become wrapped up in this towns dirty secrets of murder, lies and numerous sexual affairs and pregnancies. There are twists and turns and anyone who likes a small town mystery setting where everyone knows everyone and "good old boys" cover for each other, you'll like this one.
This is not a romance, but a mystery book and its a good one. I happen to be one of those people who LIKE cemeteries and spend free time walking around in them and photographing headstones (is that weird?), so this was a particular pleasant read for me because when Harper walks in cemeteries she can identify every buried there and their cause of death just by walking over their grave. I think that's neat - my teenager thinks it's twisted. lol

I give this 4 stars out of 5 stars and I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

"From Dead to Worse" by Charlaine Harris

Book #8 in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris is "From Dead to Worse" and this one is my second favorite of the entire series. LOVED IT!! The friendship between Sookie and her house guest friend Amelia the witch is wonderful! I love Amelia and the these two together are a good mix in the storyline.
Bob the cat is one of my favorite elements in this book. I was laughing out loud like a nut reading the scenes about him and with him in it. I laughed so hard I had tears running down my face and I am sure the other people in my kid's doctor's waiting room thought I had lost my mind. I just couldn't help myself. Bob the cat is actually Bob the human being that Amelia during some kinky sex accidentally turned into a cat. For months she has been unable to turn Bob back into a human, so Bob has become their pet! When Bob gets upset with Amelia (like when she dates other men), Bob the cat coughs up a hair ball on Amelia's bed. Bob's also been busy making kittens with the neighbors cat - something that gets Amelia in a huff! LOL When shapeshifters and werepanther friends come to Sookie's house they take one look at Bob and know he's really a guy. I LOVED those scenes! When werepanther Calvin stops by to see Sookie, he takes one look at Bob and says "Hi brother" and keeps walking- I cracked up. And the expressions that Bob gives to what's going on around him...too funny.

Besides the humor there is lots of action and sexual tension! Someone is trying to kill Sookie and female weres are disappearing and turning up dead. The weres from Shreveport are divided and it looks like an all out war is about to happen with no clear winner. Sookie is asked to help and does in several ways that I won't reveal.

Eric once again saves Sookie's life and finally, FINALLY he remembers his time with Sookie and ALL the feelings he felt for her. How he was willing to give up everything to be with Sookie and stay with her. This was GREAT! He wants to talk about it (imagine that! A guy wanting to talk about his feelings and what they mean!). Sookie on the other hand, wants no such thing. She already feels too much for Eric and her bond to him is strong. So strong that she is now feeling what he feels and is drawn to him when he's in trouble. It's Sookie to the rescue once again and who she saves along side Eric this time, is major.

There is more fairy business in this book, more of Amelia's family, more weres and more supernatural world politics at work and very little of Bill - and its all perfectly wonderful!

Another 5 star book by Charlaine Harris (I will so be rereading this over and over for years to come).

**Book #9 is next, but I don't really want to read it because then I have to wait so long for the next one. And I have done really good ignoring all comments and reviews on this book because I don't want to know anything - I hate ruined book surprises in a series that I am really enjoying. So I am stopping my Sookie reading to go read some other series for a few weeks (like Charlaine Harris' "Grave" series.**

Two Sookie Stackhouse Anthology Reviews

"Gift Wrap" by Charlaine Harris is found in "Wolfsbane & Mistletoe". I have mixed feelings on this anthology story. First I loved it. I loved the writing and the characters. The twist I didn't like. If you've read the book you know what I'm talking about. The whole reason behind Sookie's "gift" for Christmas really sort of disgusts me on some level in the creepy-family-shouldn't-give-this-sort-of-gift way. I like Sookie's relative and get he's not human so my human sensibilities shouldn't apply but...well it creeped me out. Anyone else read this and feel a bit disturbed by the 'gift' he gave Sookie? I give this one 3 stars out of 5 for the writing and story I enjoyed, the twist took this from a 5 star to a 3 for me.

(this book is available in digital ebook form with Barnes & Noble)

"Dracula Night" by Charlaine Harris is found in "Many Bloody Returns". I liked this one completely. It was full of Viking Vampire Eric!! What's not to like? In this anthology story the sexy Viking Vampire Eric is having a birthday party celebration in honor of his idol, Dracula. It is said that Dracula actually shows up at one of these parties each year and Eric is hoping Dracula will pick Eric's party to honor with his presence. Eric is like a little kid having a party a Chuck E. Cheeses! Sookie has never seen this side of Eric- she likes it. But as with all the Sookie stories, things aren't as they first appear. Something is wrong with "Dracula" and Sookie being a human is the only one who can take action. I love this heroine! Fun anthology that I really enjoyed. I give this one 5 stars out of 5 stars - it's short but oh so sweet!

How I Spent My Weekend

I can't believe its Sunday evening already! Wow. First I want to say THANKS to everyone who stopped by to visit me on the island - I had a great time! One I will not soon forget! *smile* Since getting home, I have been reading most of the weekend and have three book reviews coming up probably tomorrow. My teenage daughter and I went to Barnes & Noble today and I was REALLY good - I did NOT step foot in the Romance section! Can you believe it? That is a first for me. I wasn't going to B&N for me because my TBR pile is enormous and I really need to read what I've got. But my teen had money to burn and like me her favorite place to burn it is a book store! So we only went to the YA section. She got 2 books, I got 3! LOL

I bought a series called The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod by Heather Brewer. It's about a teenboy (the first book he's in 8th grade, the 2nd book 9th grade & the 3rd book is 10th grade) who has one human parent and one vampire parent so he's a mix of both. He has hidden what he is all his life but things are getting tough - his fangs are growing and his desire for blood is increasing each year he gets older. I thought this sounded like a great book and when I checked it online, it had 5 stars - so I bought the whole series! :o)
For a video click from the author Heather Brewer click HERE!

Vlad has to keep his vampire urges under control while dealing with the pressures of middle school.
Thirteen-year-old Vladimir Tod really hates junior high. Bullies harass him, the principal is dogging him, and the girl he likes prefers his best friend. Oh, and Vlad has a secret: His mother was human, but his father was a vampire. With no idea of the extent of his powers, Vlad struggles daily with his blood cravings and his enlarged fangs. When a substitute teacher begins to question him a little too closely, Vlad worries that his cover is about to be blown. But then he faces a much bigger problem: He's being hunted by a vampire killer.

High school totally bites when you're half human, half vampire.
Freshman year sucks for Vlad Tod. Bullies still harass him. The photographer from the school newspaper is tailing him. And failing his studies could be deadly. A trip to Siberia gives "study abroad" a whole new meaning as Vlad connects with other vampires and advances his mind-control abilities, but will he return home with the skills to recognize a vampire slayer when he sees one? In this thrilling sequel to Eighth Grade Bites, Vlad must confront the secrets of the past and battle forces that once again threaten his life. Find out why author D. J. MacHale calls The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod "Gruesome, heartwarming, spellbinding."

"It's another sucky year at Bathory High for Vladimir Tod. The evil vampire D'Ablo is hunting for the ritual that could steal Vlad's powers. His best friend Henry doesn't want to be his drudge anymore. And as if all that weren't enough, it's getting harder for Vlad to resist feeding on the people around him. When months go by with no word from Uncle Otis and D'Ablo shows up demanding Vlad's father's journal, Vlad realizes that having a normal high school year is the least of his concerns. Vlad needs to act fast, and even his status as the Pravus won't save him this time . . . "

Don't those sound good? I can't wait read to read them, but right now I am reading Charlaine Harris' "Grave Sight" and really liking it. It's no Sookie Stackhouse, but its still good and different.

July 24, 2009

It's Friday!

Hi everyone! I'm over at the island for my 2nd day today and Johnny's getting frisky! Please stop by for a visit at DIK.

I have 2 chapters left in "From Dead to Worse" by Charlaine Harris - the 8th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series -I wanted to save #9 Dead & Gone for a few months but I can't- (no more new ones till next spring! *sob*). This is my second favorite of the entire series. It's just soooooooooooooooooooooooo good! I think this has become my all time favorite series I've ever read. I will be rereading this series for decades to come without a doubt. I will be posting my review of this book tomorrow.
Now here's some WTF photos...

If you're a Gerard Butler fan, you'll want to tune in to ABC's Live with Regis & Kelly (9 am Eastern Time) today.

I've got some "New Moon" info and photos. First, 'Twilight' is being turned into a graphic novel. For more on that click HERE.

So nice...

****

Have a great Friday everyone and

please stop by DIK to say 'hi' and see how rowdy Johnny's getting.

July 23, 2009

FYI for Friday!

Just a quick heads up for tomorrow... Gerard Butler will be on the Live With Regis & Kelly show (9 AM Eastern Time).

And this is my first attempt at making a hunk collage! There's some Johnny Depp, some Richard Armitage, some Vampire Eric from True Blood (can't think of his real name at the moment and I'm too lazy to go look it up! lol) and some Jacob & Edward from Twilight and my favorite blonde male model Travis and one Gerard Butler in there. Enjoy :o)

**if you click on the collage it gets really big**

Also, tomorrow will be day 2 for me over at DIK so please stop by and say hi!!

Sir Guy of Robin Hood

I am over at DIK today, so please drop by for an island visit!
But before I go...author Kendra Leigh Castle asked me yesterday about Richard Armitage playing Sir Guy in the current BBC show "Robin Hood" (season 3 just finished). I don't get the BBC channel that plays this show, so I rent the DVD's from Netflix and watch it. I also watch some episodes or parts of episodes on Youtube. I think Richard Armitage is a GREAT Sir Guy. Sir Guy is a man divided. He's got a BAD side that is dark, but its at war with a deeply buried good side that Marian could bring out in him. Great story. Here's more of Richard Armitage as Sir Guy on the BBC's Robin Hood.

What I'm Up To Today

Sorry no book reviews today, I've been very busy packing for my trip to the island tomorrow and Johnny (Depp) has been no help at all! He keeps filling our suitcases with bottles of rum! I told him that Lea already brought the rum, but he says there can never been too much rum on a tropical island.

So while he's off buying more rum, I have been doing some shopping of my own for my trip to DIK.

The best item I found is "Vampire Sunblock"! Who knew? Now I'm not bringing my vampire heroes to the island for this trip, but I am still going to bring the sunblock for the other vampires already there hiding in their huts. I happen to know that a few of JR Ward and Charlaine Harris's vampire hunks are on the island and the poor dears have to stay indoors all day long for fear of burning to a crisp!

Now that worry is over!! Vampires everywhere can come out of their coffins and into the sun with Vampire Sunblock!

I know I said yesterday that I was going to finish the historical pirate romance book I was reading but not really enjoying, but I changed my mind. I just don't see a reason to continue reading it when I've got so many new books waiting for me to read. I am not tossing it, as I mentioned long ago on my blog it takes a LOT for me to toss a book and this book happens to be from a favorite author of mine. It will go to the bottom of my TBR pile and right now is the second book ever on my blog to be a DNF. I really hate to not finish a book, but this time I have to.

Now that I've decided to set aside that book, I have the overwhelming TBR pile to sort through and pick what to read next! *cue violins* I have SO many good books waiting to be read its hard to pick what to read next. The Demonica books by Larissa Ione that Lea loves so much are really calling to me, but so is "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon whom it seems everyone just adores! And there is the "Grave" series by Charlaine Harris that I am nearly foaming at the mouth to get to because I just love Charlaine Harris's writing. But at the very top of my TBR pile is the last Sookie Stackhouse book that I have been putting off reading because the next one isn't coming out till spring 2010 and that seems like a lifetime away *sob*. Do you feel my pain here? :o)

And to add to my book choices is the offer from Borders to buy ANY 4 books and get the 5th one for free. I can't pass that up! So I have to go order 5 more books! All these choices I have to make while I pack for my trip to the island! I hope you'll join me (and Johnny Depp) over on DIK for the next three days.

Now here's an interesting ad from COSMOS for an MP3 player (which I don't see).
Just what do you think she's...sucking up under there? :o)

LOL! I don't see him fighting her...cleaning methods. Puts a whole new meaning on 'dust bunnies'. :o)

Tuesday's This and That post (updated)

I am currently reading a pirate historical novel (something I haven't read in years), but I am not enjoying as much as I had hoped. The pirate hero is an ex Turkish Prince who isn't inspiring much emotion in me. And unfortunately, neither is the heroine. I am surprised because this is from one of my favorite authors. I am nearly done with the book and getting this far was from determination because I love the author. Had this been a 'new to me author' I would have set aside the book by now. Don't get me wrong, the writing is great, the setting and dialog are well done and the sex is smoking hot. My problem is I just don't like these characters. I am not connecting with them on any level. I don't know if I will be reviewing this book or not. After I finish it - and I am determined to finish it, I will decide.

Do any of you watch any Youtube channels? I know most are dorky, but some really make me laugh out loud (even if they are dorky). There's one young guy, Shane Dawson, who I enjoy most all his videos. They we weird, but so creative and he just cracks me up. So today I am going to share a few of his videos that gave me a laugh - some start off slow, but if you stick with them, he makes some really funny points.
He's quite the creative talented guy and he's not afraid to show it. From what I've gathered from his videos (and I could be wrong) he used to work for Jenny Craig (they fired him, his family & other workers who participated in one of his videos about them- he also got sued) I believe he also used to be heavy and lost weight.
Anyway, here's Shane Dawson...

And if you can get passed the goofy intro, his 'pick up lines' will crack you up!

Today's Hunks...

Oh Gerard... *drool, drool* Isn't this a hot photo?!

****

The first guy is putting on his kilt...yummy!

The second guy...love his umm...bugle in the sunlight. :o)

****

Johnny Castle...so sexy.

****
One more thing I want to add...
Last night I watched a great DVD that hooked me and had me crying my eyes out. I was not expecting it as I had no idea it was an emotional film. I thought it was just another teen romance drama...I was wrong. Have you ever see the Indie film "Keith" based on a short story by Ron Carlson? I am so glad I watched this film and I am glad I didn't know what it was about before I watched it, it was a total surprise. Very touching movie and cute teen actors.

MsMoonlight's Moon Post

Today being a day to recall man's first walk on the moon, I figured I should somehow incorporate that into my post, but of course I had to do it my way. *grins* So here's my "moon" post - enjoy. :o)

One of my favorite "vintage" romance movies... 'A Walk on the Moon'
About the movie: During the tumultuous and revolutionary summer of 1969, a devoted New York housewife sets off on her annual vacation with her two children to the Catskills. Life takes an unexpected turn when she is seduced by a hippie shirt peddler who helps her explore uninhibited sexuality and express free love at Woodstock. She is faced with the difficult decision of returning to her husband and family or continuing her own sexual revolution. Very sexy stuff!

"Under Fire" by Jo Davis (Bk #2 in The Firefighters of Station Five series)

Author Jo Davis, and her book "Under Fire" have hooked me! I love romance stories with firefighter heroes (my first apartment landlord was a sexy firefighter - unfortunately for me he was also married). I loved "Under Fire" and specifically the hero firefighter Zack Knight. This is book #2 in her "The Firefighters of Station Five" series.
Back blurb: "Zack fights fires and saves lives, yet his own thirst for life has run dry—until he comes to the rescue of a sharp-tongued exotic dancer named Corrine Shannon who soon has the normally shy hero burning out of control. But just as they are consumed by flames of passion, they find themselves under fire from two relentless enemies with fifty million reasons to succeed. Can they withstand the heat while trying to save their own lives—or will their newfound romance be extinguished as fast as it began?"
The most compelling aspect of the story for me was the realism of the characters. The hero was not rich, he was dirt poor and near to homeless. He was sick but couldn't afford time off work to get treatment and heal. His boss (whose story I can't wait to read) runs up one side of Zack and down the other, chewing then spitting him out and Zack does nothing to defend himself. Not the typical alpha hero of romance stories. Zack used to be the fat kid nerdy geek and he still wears glasses but now his body is buff and he's good looking though he's still a virgin. He's clueless about women, relationships and sex because he's never had any of it. Again, not your typical alpha hero, but Zack really is all hero and I adored him. The heroine, Corrine "Cori" Shannon is a stripper who hasn't had sex is ages. She dances to earn money to put herself through nursing school.

Zack and Cori meet when Zack accidentally rear ends Cori's SUV. Again, you'd sort of expect the woman in these books to cause the accident and the alpha male to be all put out about "women drivers" (funny that men pay higher insurance premiums I'm guessing they are involved in more accidents and speeding tickets than women, but still women have the bad rap for being poor drivers, go figure!). After their fender bender Cori's tire is shot out and she ends up in another accident with her SUV dangling over dangerous waters and fireman Zack rescues her only to have himself plunging into the murky waters below and nearly losing his life. Zack is in (and has been in) a deep depression and is ready to die and end it all, but his fire department buddies are not ready to give up on him and neither is Cori. Cori stays with Zack during his recovery and when Zack finds out he is homeless because of his enormous debts, Cori opens her home to him.

Cori's got her own problems. Someone is stalking her and she scared to be alone. Zack is homeless and still recovering so he can't work. These two need each other and move in together. There is sexual tension from the beginning, as both desires the other and it's only a matter of time before Zack finally learns the pleasure of sex. His first experience is rather interesting - *grin*. While Cori's mouth is occupied with Zack's throbbing penis, she sticks her finger in his butt and finds his pleasure spot much to Zack's delight! He explodes and can't wait to do it again! Cori is perfect for Zack and he's everything she needs in a man. These two compliment each other to perfection, each filling a need in the other making them whole and truly happy for the first time in their lives. Cori gives Zack hope and a will to live and love for the first time in his life. Zack gives Cori faith and security and contentment with her life.

While Zack attempts to keep Cori safe from her stalker, figure a way out of debt and get back on his feet, he takes numerous beatings, a gun shot wound and gets knifed (I couldn't help but think of all those "Jason" movies when you think he's dead but nope! He's back!). Zack spends a good deal of time in the hospital, but he's a true hero - a geeky hero with a super high IQ that saves Cori's life.

There are several twists and turns in the story that bring them all full circle. Zack and Cori have their happy ending while the story leaves us begging for the next book in 'The Firefighters of Station Five' series.

I give this story 4.5 stars out of 5.

5 on Friday

For today's "5 on Friday" I've got an assortment of mindless nonsense to help you waste your time at work as you watch the clock counting down the time till you can get the hell out of work and start your weekend.

Five stupid things about me...

1) I twirl my hair when I read, then whine when I have knots in my hair.

2) I hate unpainted toenails on women and it doesn't matter if you wear socks all winter, if you're a woman you MUST paint your toenails!

3) Procrastination in others drives me crazy, but it doesn't phase me when I procrastinate at all. :o)

4) I sniff books and like it.

5) For years I did cave exploring and now I have claustrophobia and can't - besides my fat ass would get me stuck now (probably why I have a phobia now).

5 on Friday Youtube videos that have absolutely nothing much to do with anything else in my post today...(love the one of the guy getting his penis pierced! You've never seen a more frightened male in your life!) lol

"Everlasting" by Iris Johansen

I am not sure where to begin my review of "Everlasting" by Iris Johansen because I don't really know what I think about it. I have mixed feelings and some confusion as to what I read.

Back blurb:

"Knowing she’d have only one chance to enlist his help, Kira Rubinoff plotted her approach carefully. Formidable, seductive, handsome to the point of dangerous, Zack Damon didn’t suffer fools gladly, but Kira was no one’s fool. In this day and age, even a bona fide princess had to be more than just a pretty face. But from the moment of their first encounter at his mountaintop lodge, Kira's well-laid plans—and her life—were turned inside out. For the self-made international financier had been watching her for as long as she'd been watching him.Together they will embark on an adventure to a country as exotic as it is treacherous, linked by a shared destiny and a secret Zack has been keeping until the time is right. And with danger closing in on all sides, the time to reveal it could be now...or never."

The characters were good, the romance was good, the settings were interesting in a good way...but something was off for me. Some how the end for me didn't seem to match the beginning half of the book and I ended up liking the beginning far more than the second half of the book. This was a contemporary romance between bastard and half breed Native American Indian Zack Damon and a royal princess Kira Rubinoff from Tamrovia. Toss in an old gypsy woman/nursemaid, a "mondava" (everlasting bond) and a country entering revolution and you have "Everlasting". I think for such a short book (261 pages) it had too much going on too fast for me, and I still don't get the 'mondava' part which was I suppose the main factor of the entire book. It just didn't flow for me as well as this authors other books (which I adore and have been reading for at least a decade!).
This one...left me scratching my head and wondering what I had read. I feel like a chunk of the book was missing or something. This "mondava" is some sort of everlasting bond between soul mates and at one point in the book when the heroine puts on some traditional gypsy garb the hero looks at her with a sort of "de ja vu" and I thought (waited) for the plot to reveal they were soul mates in the past or something but nope...it was never mentioned again. We never find out WHY the hero and heroine had to participate in the saldana(a place apart for a brief ceremony and sex in accordance with the mondava). I still don't know what the hell the monadava was all about. It was very cryptic from the get go and never really explained it - or I was too dimwitted to get it (which could be, it's happened many times before).

I really love this author, but I just didn't get this story - though the sexual tension/romance/sex were well written it was all the other elements that left me with a crinkled forehead and stupefied look on my face. It left me feeling confused and unsettled and wondering what the hell happened - sort of like reading when you're drunk and wondering the next day if you really read that or just made it up! (oh come on! I can't be the only one whose done this!) LOL

I give this book 2 out of 5 stars.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Movie

Well, I went on opening day for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and was first in line!! I went an hour early and got perfect seats. :o)

I am blown away by the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince! While I was looking forward to seeing it, I really wasn't expecting much because so much of the books had been cut out in the last few movies.

I was thrilled that screen writer Steve Kloves (first 4 HP movies) returned for this installment. He stayed true to the book leaving me with only one disappointment, which I'll get into later.

Getting Bruno Delbonnel as cinematographer was one of the best things they could have done. The angles of the scenes (just WOW), sweeps across areas, close ups and fades were PHENOMENAL, the best of all the films in my opinion.

For fans of the book, I think you will really enjoy this movie. Of all the Harry Potter movies made, this one stayed closest and truest to the book. The settings in the movie were as they were described in the books. The characters were true to the characters in the book - and there are a whole lot more sub characters in this book (all the dating teens etc). The teen actors who played the love interests and classmates were spot on! Loved them! The first romance bug that ran wild in this book was just as wild and amusing and then bittersweet on film as in the book. Emma Watson AKA 'Hermione' out does herself in The Half Blood Prince - her best work yet and she's always terrific in my opinion.

I am only going to give one possible spoiler away by mentioning something in the book that was not in the movie and really should have been and I saw no reason for it not to be. So if you don't want to know, stop reading now.

In the book, Draco Malfoy is given the task by Voldemort of killing Dumbledore and getting the Death Eaters into Hogwarts. The movie follows the book very well up until Dumbledore's death. At this point in the book, there is a HUGE fight inside Hogwarts between the Death Eaters and Hogwarts students and teachers who fight back with a vengeance. This is my favorite part of the book and it's NOT in the movie. There is no fight. Snape finishes off Dumbledore for Draco just like in the book and Harry takes off after Snape just like in the book, but there is no fighting with the Death Eaters. No werewolf bite of the oldest Weasley brother (he's not in it at all, no wedding, no annoying girlfriend). Fenrir the werewolf is in the movie, but he doesn't bite anyone nor transform so unless you've read the books, you really have no idea who he is or what he is. I thought that was sort of pointless. If they couldn't budget time or money for a fight scene they could have mentioned a fight and shown everyone beaten up and haggard from a fight later on to indicate the fight had occurred, but that's not what happened. No fight. The Death Eaters ran on tables and smashed out a window then left. Poor Draco spent all year working on a way to get the Death Eaters into Hogwarts and it was for nothing. That was disappointing to me, but the rest of the movie was great.

This is my favorite Harry Potter movie so far!

Easy 5 stars.

My 300th Post: Men in kilts

This is my 300th post! I thought about assorted topics for this post, ie: Harry Potter because it's opening day- but figured everyone else would be doing that or talk about my favorite authors but I had just done that last week or talk about a current favorite series, but you've all heard me going on and on about Sookie Stackhouse for a month. So I decided to go with hunks in kilts and why I wish more men wore kilts! They are SOOOOOOOO sexy!

Because their dangly parts are dangling free...

*oy vey!*

Because they look so damn good!

Come on, this guy is HOT in his kilt!! *drool*

I find this shot of a guy on a hog wearing a kilt incredibly hot.
I'd probably drive off the road watching him trying to get a glimpse under his kilt!
I don't think my auto insurance would cover such an accident - but they should!

****
Tattoo's and a leather kilt...yum!
****
Love the boots with the kilt.

Kristie tipped me off to these commercials months ago...I love them!

Because it's sexy as hell and all about the attitude and confidence to wear it...

And my last favorite thing about kilts is the job of "Kilt Inspector" (which I hope to be one day). :o)
