I am in a reading slump. I only read one book this week, "Some Girls Are" by Courtney Summers. For my review of this book check out my YA blog "The Cracked Spine". I tried to read "Raised by Wolves" by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and "Carter Finally Gets It" by Brent Crawford (both YA books) but I simply could not get into them.
I don't think its the books, but rather me and my reading slump. I don't know if its because I am burned out on YA books at the moment, or if its this horrid heat of summer or just me- probably all of those things combined. I just can't get into reading and it sucks!
While these YA books are currently DNF's for me, I am keeping them on my TBR list and will try to get back to them in several months.
My problem right now is I really don't know what I am in the mood to read. Do I want something spicy like an erotic book or do I want a historical romance or do I want more paranormal stuff? I just don't know. I have become a wishy-washy Charlie Brown of reading lately and I don't like it. Actually, it's pissing me off.
I've watched a few movies "Dear John" (OK), "Remember Me" (starring Rob Pattenson)-another OK movie with an ending I didn't see coming because I don't read spoilers. Then I tried again to like "True Blood" the show inspired by my favorite paranormal series of all time "Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Series".
I watched "True Blood" season one over a year ago and didn't like it. I was bored (since I am not reading at the moment) and thought I'd give season 2 of "True Blood" another shot because its so popular with people.
I hated this season even more. They are just SO FAR off from the books and in my opinion plain old STUPID that I can't stand the show. I do like "Eric", but even his character is NOT portrayed the way the character in the books is. The only character I like in the HBO "True Blood" version is Lafayette and his character is DEAD AND GONE in the first book of the Sookie series. In my opinion, the only character on True Blood worth watching is Lafayette - the rest are just plain disappointing or annoying. I just don't see what the appeal is of this show- especially after watching the sheer (in my opinion) stupidity of season two. Demon possessed zombie-like horny people detroying the ENTIRE town?? Seriously?? WTF is all I've got to say about that.

Ahhh Ms m...
I feel your pain - I have been like that for a while now ....
I am just doing re-reads, and reading all the juicy bits...
I agree with you about the summer weather, not the best for being indoor and reading...
You may just need a break.....
Hang in there hon - It will pass...
E.h>
Oh, I'm so sorry... that's painful. Maybe a change of genres or re-reading some old favorites, MsM. Sometimes I burn myself out reading one genre and need a complete change to get going again. Good luck beating the slump!
Blech. I feel you, hun. I am exactly the same at the moment. It's fucking annoying.
Been where you are for a while now :). So far it hasn't passed for me, but I did make it to the bookstore and bought a few books. That felt really, really good! I was hoping that having some new books on the shelf to read would spark something, but so far, nothing.
I'm with Amy. My reading slump has been going on a while. I just can't find anything I want (though I've enjoyed a couple of those quick free reads on EC you recommended!) and I don't have the time to waste on stuff I start to read and don't connect with right off. SIGH. LOL at your True Blood issues...my husband is getting into that right now, but I had a feeling it wasn't anything like the books. Usually stuff is ruined when it's brought to the screen, with very few exceptions. Hope you manage to find some good stuff soon! This heat sucks the big one.
I hear you Ms. M... Reading has been almost painful for me lately and reviewing - even worse.
No. Fun.
I agree about the summer heat too. It never seems to end! :( I feel like this summer is going to be the end of me..
Thanks for sharing because I'm glad I'm not the only one..
And what the fuck is with this spammer that keeps infesting your blog??
Ack.. Bug repellant is required..
:(
Hi MsM. I hope your slump is over soon. I can totally relate.
