We all have that one show (ok, maybe some of us have one dozen *shhh!*), that has that one character... you know that guy who as soon as he comes on screen your toes curl, your heart jumps a beat and you hold your breath for a moment waiting to hear him speak.
You know what I'm talking about - THAT guy! Well, one of THOSE guys for me in Charlie Hunnam (currently AKA "Jax" on Sons of Anarchy).

(photo collage created from GOOGLE Images)He's played assorted roles all completely different from each other. He's been Nicholas Nickleby in the classic of that name by Charles Dickens, he's played a gay twink on "Queer as Folk" and as I said above, he's currently "Jax" a badass, gun toting biker hunk.
I love his diversity and that whatever role he is playing, I believe him to be THAT character. When I watch him in Nicholas Nickleby I forget completely about his role as tough gun shooting Jax on a bike flying down the highway like a bat out of hell. Yet when I watch Sons of Anarchy I completely forget scenes of Charlie Hunnam being a bottom during a steamy graphic hot gay sex scene. He is such a good believable actor that he captures my attention and mind to whatever role he is currently playing. Few actors do that for me...my mind often wanders to their other work and I find myself comparing their works. Not with Charlie Hunnam.
I've only seen bits and pieces (mostly Charlie's very naked bits and pieces *sigh*) of "Queer as Folk", but I am a faithful follower of "Sons of Anarchy" and continue to rent Nicholas Nickleby when I need another Charlie Hunnam fix. While I have enjoyed all the roles I've seen him in, I have to say my favorite is his role as Jackson "Jax" on 'Sons of Anarchy' and that surprised me the first time I watched the show. I can't talk about Charlie Hunnam without giving a shout out to this show.
I don't usually care to tune in weekly for a show with such graphic violence. I'd like to say that it was purely Charlie Hunnam's role that captured me, but it wasn't. Charlie Hunnam sucked me into watching the first episode. He did capture my attention completely and wipe out all the other roles I had seen him in, but he wasn't the only factor drawing me in and bringing me back week after week.
The entire cast is seductive and enchanting -ya I know, weird word to use for a biker gang...er club... television show but it's true! The writing is phenomenal, with twists and turns I never see coming. I've heard some people call the show 'gritty'...that's far too mild and doesn't capture the essence of the show. When I think of 'grit' I think of coarse sand...Sons of Anarchy is not sand, it's gravel- sharp rocks that gouge the skin. Grit you could ignore and put out of your mind, that won't happen watching Sons of Anarchy. You're still thinking about it weeks after the season final has ended. Replaying in your mind the episodes of the trials and triumphs the characters have endured that season.
Just when I think the violence is too much...a tender moment finds its way on the screen. Jackson with his infant son, or Gemma buttoning her husband's shirt for him because his hands refuse to do his will more often than not these days. The violence is balanced by the sense of family and brotherhood...the invisible link that bonds these people together.
I can't wait for the next season to start...I hope there are far more episodes than last season...it's just not enough!
Here are a few clips of interviews from a younger Charlie Hunnam and his role on Queer as Folk as a gay man and acting out graphic gay sex scenes.
Am I the only one who keeps replaying that interview?? *grins* Check out this next one...
And one more with co-star Katey (she's terrific too)!!
Way to go Charlie! You're a great actor with amazing talent and a bright future in front of you.

I sat through an awful Katie Holmes film ('Abandon') and watched 'Cold Mountain' purely for a glimpse of Charlie Hunnam... and in 'Cold Mountain' he played an albino bad-guy!
At least in 'Sons' he's a smokin-hot tatooed bad boy. YUM!
Love, love, love this guy. A really good movie of his is 'Hooligans' - very interesting, and he looks smokin'.
I've only seen "Abandon" clips on Youtube, and I have "Hooligans" dvd (Netflix) scheduled for watching soon. I didn't care for "Cold Mountain" and I am a huge Jude Law fan but that movie just didn't cut it for me at all.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing the Charlie love!
:o)

Young Charlie is adorable! That accent is so sexy.
He's great in SoA. Jax is such a complete character. He's got this sense of justice but you also know he'll kill if he has to. I need to catch up on this season. :)
I havent watched this show, but i've heard good things!
