Synopsis: "Some things won't stay buried . . . at grave's end
It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield's life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she's successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat's worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover's finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.
As if that wasn't enough, a woman from Bones's past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat's about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she's learned as a special agent won't help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave."
This is truly a superb series with some of my favorite book characters of all time. Book three continues the story of Cat "The Red Reaper" hunting evil vampires and loving her vampire "Bones". Cat continues to put herself in danger as she leads her team with Bones at her side as they seek out and hunt down vampires that prey on humans. In this book there are several plot twists happening at once and I really don't want to give them away so I can't give a detailed review or it would spoil the book.
I won't say who but several characters go through some BIG changes (some seen and one that came out of left field that I didn't see coming) and there are several deaths. There is more lust and hot romance and a chapter that will have you in tears so have a box of tissues near by.
If I have any gripe about this book it's the lack of 'laugh out loud' humor that the first two books were full of. This one was nearly devoid of that humor, but it was filled to the brim with suspense, thrills, chills and heart stopping 'oooohhh love' moments that curl your toes. There is betrayal, mended fences, brutal battles, torture and new love.
Author Jeaniene Frost has once again produced a page turning book that I could NOT put down and simply HAD to read in one sitting. Thank goodness for the snowstorm that allowed me to stay home and inside all day. The perfect excuse to do nothing but lose myself in this phenomenal fantasy fiction book.
4.5/5 stars (would have 5 stars had the humor been there as it was in the first two books)
