"Disturbia" movie review

Movie review today! I don't have any book reviews because I have been watching and re-watching one movie for days now! I just love Netflix and the ability to keep movies for days or weeks if you want. I got "Disturbia" last Friday and have watched it at least once a day since (ok, last night I watched it twice!). I don't know what it is about this movie, but I am loving it.

"Disturbia" is a retelling of Hitchcock's "Rearwindow". It stars the handsome and oh so cute Shia LaBeouf, as "Kale". Kale is a teen dealing with a lot - he's also under house arrest for punching out his teacher. Kale had a happy life and good close family until his father died in front of his eyes. Kale sinks into despair and lashes out - hence punching his teacher when his teacher pours salt into Kale's still open wounds.
Kale ends up with an ankle bracelet and can't leave his property for three months. His mother gets sick and tired of Kale doing nothing but making a mess so she cuts off his subscriptions to video games, his ipod and his cable tv. Bored to death, Kale begins watching his neighbors for entertainment and soon learns more about most of them than he ever wanted to know.
One new neighbor Kale wants to know better is the beautiful new girl next door- Ashley. He watches her and learns to really know her and see who she is - this endears her and she awards Kale with a passionate kiss. These two were great together, but they weren't alone in this story.

Kale's best buddy Ronnie plays a large role too, and he's great. Together the three stake out the neighborhood and discover a serial killer living next door. But the serial killer doesn't want to get caught and he knows the teens are watching him.
This movie has action, lots of suspense, moments that make you jump in surprise (even after 4 viewings I still jump at one scene! lol), good teen interaction friendship (loved Kale & Ronnie as best buds) and some romance with a wounded hero all coated in teen angst! What's not to like? Nothing. I love this movie! I give it 5 out of 5 stars for a teen suspense/thriller movie.

I think I'm adding this one to the netflix queue! I don't do suspense often, but you gave it 5 outta 5!

I just got Outsider in the mail today. Saw it over on Cindy's blog and I believe you commented that it's one of your faves?

Hi Lea! For some reason this movie has become addicting to me, I am really enjoying it.

JenB - Yes he is cute! And I think he's a very good young actor. I really liked him in "Eagle Eye", have you seen that one with Diane Lane? Good one!

Blanche your daughters right, its a good one, watch it!

Hi Amy! "The Outsider" with Naomi Watts is a GREAT romantic movie, in my top 10. I hope you like it and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it, will you give a movie review?

I don't know if I'll do a movie review. I've thought about doing those sometimes. I have once or twice :). Maybe I will with this one since it is romantic.

Amy - it's not really a romance, its a teen thriller movie with a nice romance tossed in!

Okay, I had a comment in mind, but I just happened to look to the right and saw the new moon flyer you have posted and it utterly vanished to be replaced with constant glances of that er...what was I saying again? I seem to be REALLY distracted.

I loved this movie! Saw when it came out in the theaters. Didn't know it was a remake though. It actually kind of reminded me a little of The Burbs :)

I wondered if this one was any good, and I don't think I realized it was a Hitchcock take-off! I do like Shia's acting, though I wish he would try harder to stay out of the news by saying, er, strange things about his love for his mom, LOL. Thanks for the recommendation!
