I hate to complain but...I'm gonna. Welcome to my Whine Fest.
I mentioned in a previous weekend post that I was going to watch a new Harlequin DVD "Loving Evangeline" (based on the Linda Howard book) and a few more episodes of "True Blood" (season one).
The movie "Loving Evangeline" stunk. Sorry, there's just no other way to put it. First, the couple shown on the cover are NOT in the movie. I am baffled by that, I just don't even know what to say about that. Secondly, there was NO connection or chemistry between the hero and heroine at all. He was older...maybe late 50's
(does the guy on the cover look like he's that old?) and she was in her 30's (I don't mind this in romance at all, but it didn't fit the cover or the book I had read so it really threw me off). And finally, it was so damn BORING that I turned it off and simply could NOT finish watching it after I was already an hour in. I was SO disappointed because this was a great book, with great chemistry between the characters and a plot full of suspense and romance - something the movie failed to bring to the screen completely.

I was SO disappointed because this was a great book, with great chemistry between the characters and a plot full of suspense and romance - something the movie failed to bring to the screen completely. So I yanked "Loving Evangeline" out of the DVD player and put in HBO's "True Blood". I had 3 episodes to watch and it had left off with drug addict Jason having blood drained from his engorged penis and Tara fawning over him like a love sick puppy (neither of which is in the books). While the Tara in HBO's "True Blood" is NOTHING like the Tara in Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels, I did feel bad for her and she does make me laugh at her. The only character that really comes across the same in the show as he does in the book (for me at least) is Dull Bill. He bores me in the book and bores me on the screen. The character of Eric is a HUGE disappointment for me because Eric in the book is very intense and right away intrigued by Sookie. Not so in the HBO version. In the HBO version he's indifferent and uninterested in Sookie and disgusted by Bill's claiming her as "his". In the book, vampires claim humans as their own all the time, it's part of their make up 'owning' humans and being territorial about them. When Sookie is called in to read the minds of Eric's employees and find out who is stealing for me, I was all set to like this actor playing Eric. I LOVED this scene in the book when Eric rushes to Sookies defense (while dull Bill sits back and watches) and actually kills a vampire to save Sookie and to dole out his own brand of justice. In HBO's version, Eric did nothing while Bill saved Sookie and then Bill is punished for saving her and has to 'turn' a human into a vampire. Huh??? What the fuck! (pardon my verbage). I was PISSED. Why change such a PIVOTAL point of the story?? Eric's actions in that scene are what sets the story for his going after Sookie as a love interest, it makes Eric the 'hero' who sacrifices one of his own for Sookie. I really don't understand why HBO did this unless they plan on making Bill something he's not and stripping Eric of his appeal in the book. HUGE disappointment. *sigh* And yes, this is a very naked Eric in the bathtub scene from True Blood...enjoy! :o)

OK, my Whine Fest is over. Now on to other things. Have heard about stinky Robert Pattinson (who by the way I read in an article is leaving acting after he finishes the Twilight movies to follow his music career)? I watched him on Jay Leno when the movie "Twilight" was first coming out and he talked about not showering much and not being too clean - anyone see that? It was gross, but Jay Leno made it hysterical and his guest (I think it was Victoria Secrets model Heidi Klum) moved far away from him on the couch. Here's the show:
Anywho...rumor has it that his stinky body odor is causing problems on the set of "New Moon" along with his jealousy of not having a big part in this installment. Here's more on that...
From my post yesterday, you know I was over on Barnes & Noble's website. I really shouldn't have purchased a single book, but those prices were just TOO good to pass up! I had to buy something and I had to spend at least $25 because then I get free shipping.
So here's what I got:
-"Grave Sight" by Charlaine Harris
-"Grave Sight" by Charlaine Harris
I bought this because it's by Charlaine Harris (she has become a must read author for me) and because it's another series for me to read once I finish with Sookie Stackhouse.
-"Dead Sexy" and "Tall, Dark and Dead" by Tate Halloway
I bought these because they sound great and I've been looking at them for months so when they were both priced so well ($1.99 and $3.99) I just couldn't put off getting them any longer.
-"Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon
OK, I had to get this one because everyone under the sun is in love with the hero of this book and all I hear are wonderful things about this story. It's been on my TBB list for months and I finally ordered it.
-"Hot Blooded" (paranormal anthology by 4 authors)
I got this one because it has stories from other series in it and if I like these short anthologies I will probably get the series related to them (I find the best series this way!).
-"High Stakes" by Erin McCarthy
I got this one because its the first in her Vegas Vampire series and I have her "Bled Dry" already sitting in my TBR pile, so I really needed the first book. It was only $1.99 and sounds like a fun vampire novel/series!
Looks like my summer reading is going to be dominated by vampires! I'm good with that! :o)
OK, now I need help with something. I have to read two more m/m books by the end of August to make my M/M Reading Challenge and I have no idea what to buy. If you have a favorite m/m romance would you PLEASE recommend it to me? I need to get going on that challenge, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I whine to, about the major differences in the HBO series and the Book. I still enjoy the HBO show. But I have to keep them separate. I like the picture of Eric. He's a big boy. Bill almost took Eric's head off last night. In claimning his MINE!!!!
I have 3 suggestions for Menage's.
Their One and Only=Trista Ann Michels.
and "Tempted" by Megan Hart
and "Long Hard Ride" by Lorelei James. (this is beginning of a series).
Hehehe...I'm so with you on the TV versus book stuff. That's why, if there's a book. I usually won't watch the movie. Books are always better. True Blood is the only exception I've made. I have the unopened season 1 DVD sitting here beside the first couple of Stackhouse books. Which first? I'm thinking DVD, that way I won't be too disappointed and then the books will be a treat.
I've read High Stakes and Hot Blooded. Both are good, but Hot Blooded is by far one of the best anthologies I've read. Enjoy....
Ms. M.
It's Trista Ann Michaels who wrote
Their One and Only. I loved this one. My favorite Menage.
Hey Donna! I am done with menages for now, but will do another "March Mengae Month" next March and I will do a few more before then because I have like 4 more in my TBR pile that I didn't finish during March.

Hi Cybercliper! I think I would have watched the DVD's first then the books had I known how different they were going to be.
Thanks for the heads up on the books I bought. :o)
Ms. M, you can whine all you want cause I'm so with you on the descrepancies with TB and the books. It's been a while since I've read the Sookie books and I don't remember Eric killing LongShadow when she narced on him. I thought Bill did it in the books too. Gosh, I wish I had my copy to double check. It's gonna bug me all day. :)
What a haul at B/N! I too have Outlander in my TBR but haven't wanted to start it.
As for m/m-I don't know what the "rules" of your challenge are but if the whole story doesn't have to be m/m you can check out Sydney Croft's ACRO series. I loved these-There is a character, Dev who has a m/m relationship with Oz through the books. Very hot!
Have a great day!
:)Lisa
More books for you, MsMoonlight!
I have no suggestions for m/m, since I don't read them :). But I do know of an author and I did meet her and she seems real nice, if you haven't tried her, maybe she might work for you. Her name is Laura Baumbach.
Not sure what to make of this youtube clips :).
Hi Ms. M.! Ooh, interesting books! I'll be waiting to see what you think of Outlander, because I haven't read it either but have heard the zillion accolades it's gotten. If you like it, I'll try it:-)
LOL at stinky Rob Pattinson. He is cute, if smelly:-) I heard Viggo Mortensen refused to bathe when they were filming LOTR too. EW. Bummer that they messed with the Sookie books so much. I think I'll try the books first!
Great Post Ms. M.!!
I'm with you, "Loving Evangaline", was the worst movie known to man and it was a DNF for me too. I've liked a couple of the Harlequin Presents movies, but that one was awful, awful, awful.
And, Rob Pattison guy - OMG - take a bath, or shower or something. YIKES!!!
As for SOOKIE - sorry I can't comment, but I hear what you are saying, there are very few book to movie adaptations I have enjoyed.
Thanks Ms.M.!!
L
Hey Ms. M,
I will be interested to see what you think about Outlander, but you really should have purchased Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager along with it because I doubt you will be able to stop at the first one...there is a reason why her followers needed a methadone list of books to read in between new releases.
And to follow up on Donna's comment. Lorelei James has a couple of menages, Long Hard Ride, and Rough, Raw, and Ready. Don't you just love those titles :) As an added bonus LJ will be a guest on my blog on Wed and will be giving away 2 e-books so make sure you stop by to try and win one!
Ms.M
The Menage's was M/M and M/M/F in Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James. She also adds a few M/M scenes into a couple of these books in this series. It's not a total M/M book.
And by the way. I must say Bill in the TB Season is showing some balls. He's not as dull as he was in first season or the books. which is refreshing. And Eric's interest level in Sookie is increasing.
Thanks Booklover1335 for information about LJ. Love her books.
Yuck! A stinky Edward?! What is it with these Hollywood actors that want to smell gross?
;) VFG
Hi Lisa! Welcome to my Whine Fest, we can gripe about True Blood together! :o) (and yes, it was Eric who killed LongShadow to save Sookie in the book, but on TrueBlood they had Bill do it).
---
Amy C - thanks for the tip, I will check that author out. :o)
---
Kendra - lol you're right, Pattinson is cute even if he is stinky! :o)
---
Lea - What a disappointment that movie was! Egads! The worst! What were they thinking??? Nothing apparently! Grrr...
I think someone needs to take a hose and soap to Rob Pattinson! (I'm sure he's got enough fans to volunteer for the job!) :o)
---
Booklover - it's interesting that you say that, because B&N had hardcover 3 in 1 book series from this author and I almost bought it but decided to wait until I had read one book to see if I really liked her writing or not.
---
Donna - so Bill is growing a pair on HBO eh? He never grew them in the Sookie books! LOL :o)
---
VFG - yep, he's stinky. Apparently his acting as an undead corpse has made him take on the aroma of one! *grin*
Loving the whiny post Ms M..
What a disappointment with Loving Evangeline - other than the McKenzie Mountain series, that is fav book by her...
I didn't even realise there was a movie of it...
Love your book haul... The Tate Halloway, sound wonderful..
And at those prices anything is justified..
E.H>
Oh Ms. M, I could not agree with you more on the TV vs. Book thing. I am a true fan of Sookies, but I refuse to watch the show. Not only because of the accents that Sookie has, but because what I picture in my mind never matches the tv, so therefore, I stick to my mind! But it does piss off!!!
Glad that I was not the only one!
I am sorry that I cant offer any m/m books. I dont own any yet... Sorry. Hope you are having a wonderful day though!!
Ms. M.
I know Stephen Moyer is a good actor.
But this character was really Dead and Dull. Compared to the other colorful characters. I bet fans spoke up.
He's showing a real hot temper this year. He's throwing other Vamps across the room. He was so mad at Sookie for disobeying him.
Steam was almost coming out of his ears. LOL!!!!
I am so glad I didn't buy this movie!!! Whew! Great Post!
