If I didn't already know that Jessica Bird and J.R. Ward were the same author I would not have guessed it by reading her "An Unforgettable Lady". Don't get me wrong, it was a really good 'who-done-it' romance, but I sort of assumed I would just know it was J.R. Ward writing and I didn't. When ever I read a book by Heather Graham/Shannon Drake/Heather Graham Pozzessere I always know it's her no matter what name the book is released under. I can tell her flavor of writing if you will. Not so for me with this book from Jessica Bird- AKA J.R. Ward and that surprised me but in no way did it disappointment me. The book was good, I was just surprised I couldn't tell it was J.R. Ward's writing and would never have guessed if I hadn't already known it was her.
The book "An Unforgettable Lady" is about a wealthy heiress named Grace Hall and the bodyguard John Smith she hires to protect her when other wealthy women are murdered and Grace finds out she's on the list to be a victim.
John Smith is weapon and lives his life alone going from one job to the next and never -ever becoming involved with a client or any woman for more than a day or two. He wants no emotional ties with anyone. Unfortunately for him, he wants Grace.
Grace is married to a nasty good for nothing Count. It's a loveless marriage and she wants out. The Count agrees but wants Grace's money - he has expensive tastes. All this has to be kept out of the media because image is everything.
When John agrees to become her bodyguard some people think Grace is sleeping with him - she wishes it were true but John refuses. She makes several attempts to get him into her bed, but their timing is rotten. The sexual tension is thick with these two both wanting each other, but John trying to keep his distance and put walls while Grace does her best to bring down his walls.
There's a lot going on in this romance story, between murders, back stabbing employees, sexual tension, a separation and impending divorce and then in walks Callie.
Callie is a half sister Grace didn't know she had. Apparently Grace's very prestigious father had an affair twenty-seven years prior and had another family that Grace and her uptight snobbish Mother knew nothing about.
I figured out the 'who-done-it' very early on in the book, but that didn't spoil it for me. John was fascinating and fun to watch fall to his knees when he fell in love with Grace. He was so dumbfounded and lost not knowing what the hell to do it was cute. He finally gets himself together, admits he's in love and goes after his 'unforgettable lady' Grace.
I liked the book and give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

Great review. I've been meaning to read one of her contemps. I think it was Amy who said they are pretty good. One of these days I'll get to one.
Hey MsMoonlight. Great review.
I totally agree, Jessica Bird is completely different from J.R. Ward. This definitely shows her incredible range though.
I can't remember my feelings towards AUL because I read it eons ago but I do remember enjoying 'Irristible Bachelor' better and it features Callie.
Happy Reading,

VFG- I have "Irrisitable Bachelor" on my shelf waiting to be read soon. But I have a few books that UPS is supposed to be delivering today or tomorrow that I have been dying for, so 'IB' is gonna have to wait a bit. :o)
Yes, Bird's writing is soooo very different from Ward's -but still entertaining.
So...does Grace try to get John in bed with her while she's still married to the count?
